In the Spring of 2002, Knee High Media began work on Paper Sky magazine as an extension of our editorial vision. Since then, Paper Sky has steadily amassed a sophisticated, well-informed and progressive readership that is drawn to the magazine’s distinctive celebration of a life of travel. Along with pioneering online content at Sony Corporation’s World Event Village, a television show (Paper Sky TV), a bookstore in Tokyo and an exclusive line of bags and accessories made with Japanese bag maker Yoshida Kaban, Paper Sky embodies the intelligence of a new generation of Japanese travelers.

For our first issue, subtitled as “Tokion Traveller,” it’s the Japanese School Trip Revisted in Hawaii, Nara and Tokyo. In Hawaii, a look at Japanese roots, Hawaii Plantation Village, swap meets, KZOO Radio, Fourth Generation Japanese American families, Japanese food as well as a guide to Honolulu. In Nara, we checked out all Nara Park has to offer plus we made a comprehensive guide to the ins and outs. Tokyo makes us reminisce around Ginza and Yurakucho among other peculiar places familiar among Japanese school trips. Contents also include a search for the heavyweight champion of Meat Buns (nikuman), an interview with writer and traveler Pico Iyer and legendary musician Haruomi Hosono (YMO), the photography of Yoshiko Seino, a quick look at escalator etiquette around the world, in-flight magazines as well as a short trip to ride the World Buchigiri Roller Coaster Dodonpa (Who can pull the most Gs in 60 seconds) in Japan.
